Each Binchotan stick can be used for 6 months.

  • Wash your hands thoroughly before handling the Binchotan stick

  • Rinse the stick under tap water

  • Place it in a pot of boiling water, and let it boil for 15 minutes to sterilize it

  • Take it out without burning yourself (for example with our coal tongs), and let it cool and dry

  • Insert the dry stick into a decanter, pitcher or glass fountain

  • Fill the fountain with cold, potable tap water.

  • Let the charcoal act for at least 8 hours (the ideal is to let it act overnight)

  • In the early morning, you have purified water. If necessary, you can empty this water into one or more bottles, and restart a purification cycle to have enough water.

  • The purification is carried out in 8 hours, you can carry out up to 3 cycles per day

  • Each month, it will be necessary to reboil the Binchotan to sterilize it (once a week for fragile people: babies, children, the elderly, etc.)

  • Wash the fountain once or twice a week, if possible in the dishwasher.

  • Your stick is reusable for 6 months. Beyond that, the Binchotan activated carbon reaches saturation and needs to be changed.

  • Used coals can be used to reduce odors in the refrigerator. You can also use them for decoration, fertilizer in the garden, recycle them into jewelry (see here) or compost them.

  • Only the round and yellow sticker on the packaging guarantees you to be in the presence of an authentic Japanese Binchotan from Kishu, beware of counterfeits (see here)

PRECAUTIONS FOR USE:

  • Binchotan is always used in drinking water.

  • Do not leave a Binchotan in the same water for more than 48 hours

  • A broken Binchotan can continue to be used as normal

  • The activated carbon particles that could appear in the water if the Binchotan were to break are completely harmless and can be ingested without problems. However, they can reduce the assimilation of certain drugs. If you are taking a treatment and your carbon breaks, change the water and rinse the carbon under running tap water to clear it of debris before putting it back into service.

If you go on vacation, take the coals out of their water and let them dry for 24 hours. You will then store them in their original pouch or in a clean, airtight jar. You   will be able to take them everywhere. You just need to boil them before   put them back into service.

Unused sticks should be stored in a dry place in their original pouch.
